Today, your journey will take you to Miranda do Douro, the easternmost point of your adventure. After a comfortable transfer, the landscape gradually transforms into one of the most dramatic sections of the Douro River Canyon, where impressive cliffs rise over 200 metres above the water.
Upon arrival, you can explore the town’s medieval walls, which have silently witnessed centuries of history. Miranda do Douro is also renowned for its strong cultural identity, where traditions are proudly upheld. In summer, you may catch a performance by the energetic Pauliteiros dancers, who perform ancient folk dances. Cycling through this scenery is an absolute blast! There's something truly special about taking in these views at a relaxed pace, sharing the experience with the group. The Douro is simply stunning! It's world-renowned for its amazing wines, especially Port. And what better way to experience the valley than on a scenic river cruise aboard a traditional Rabelo boat? You simply have to visit the famous railway station in Pinhão when you go – it's absolutely stunning! The beautiful blue-and-white tiles illustrate everyday life in the region and are simply not to be missed! The adventure continues as we make our way through the beautiful town of Sabrosa, the birthplace of the legendary explorer Ferdinand Magellan. We'll end the day in style with an overnight stay in this historic and welcoming town.
The final stage of your journey is an absolute gem, as it follows the quiet back roads of the Douro Valley. Here, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of terraced vineyards and rolling hills that will take your breath away. As the route gently descends towards the river, the raw beauty of the landscape creates a fitting and memorable finale to the cycling experience. By the time you reach Peso da Régua, the capital of the Douro district and the true heart of Port wine production, you will be in for a real treat.
